“Argentina’s Polo Legacy Redefined: The First Genetically Edited Horses”

Argentina’s renowned polo mare, Polo Pureza, will see her legacy continue through five genetically edited horses, crafted to surpass her own legendary speed and agility.

Scientists at the Argentine biotech company Kheiron have achieved a groundbreaking feat, creating the world’s first genetically edited horses using the CRISPR-Cas9 technique. These remarkable foals were born between October and November.

“We shape their genetic makeup before they even take their first breath,” explained Gabriel Vichera, Kheiron’s co-founder and scientific director. “This is possible thanks to genetic scissor technology, a molecular tool that allows us to precisely cut and modify any section of the genome.”
